Tom Kutzen

Based in Greenwich, Connecticut, Tom Kutzen is a skilled financial service professional with more than 30 years of experience managing banks and portfolios, working in various markets, and developing products. 

Currently, in his professional career, Tom Kutzen is focused on sharing the knowledge he’s accumulated across three decades within the capital markets with individuals and organizations operating outside of the financial services industry. Tom’s goal is to help these organizations and individuals alike develop the skills they need to continue their financial understanding and work towards economic success. He founded his capital management firm in 2000, and for the past two decades, he has been managing the firm. 

Recently, in 2021, Tom Kutzen founded TKSmartWorth.com, an online resource to help the general public increase their financial literacy. This newly launched site is designed as an educational tool where Tom shares highly informed insight on finance issues and capital markets built on 30 years of experience while aiming to provide up-to-the-minute information about the latest finance topics. A lot of Americans were hurt financially during the pandemic, and Tom wants to empower people to understand the nuances of the ever-changing markets. 

Throughout his career, Tom Kutzen has developed expertise in areas like risk management, emerging markets, developing markets, capital markets, managing banks and portfolios, and product development. 

Tom Kutzen holds his MBA with a focus on General Finance From the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also attended the University of Chicago’s Finance and Economics Ph.D. program from 1976 to 1980, completing all of the program requirements except for the dissertation. During this time, he also worked as a research assistant for the National Bureau of Economic Research and taught MBA courses. Prior to his MBA, Tom earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Oberlin College. In 2010, Tom joined the team at Oberlin College in a professional capacity, serving as Chairman of the Oberlin Investment Committee for five years before moving into his current position as Trustee Emeritus. 

Outside of his professional career, Tom Kutzen likes to unwind with a round of golf. He is also a former distance runner who completed six consecutive New York City Marathons during the 90s. He is also a competitive sailor through the Chicago Yacht Club and the China Sea Race.
